For years you could count the French fighters in the UFC on one hand. MMA was banned from competition in France until 2020, so French athletes had to fight abroad. Legalization, followed by the first UFC Paris card in 2022, changed the picture fast: nine French fighters appeared on the UFC Paris card of September 5, 2026 alone.

Ciryl Gane
Gane became undisputed heavyweight champion on September 14, 2026, without fighting that day: Tom Aspinall vacated the belt for medical reasons, and Gane, interim champion since stopping Alex Pereira on June 14, was elevated. No French fighter had ever held the undisputed heavyweight title. His first defense is against Josh Hokit at UFC 334 on November 14.
Nassourdine Imavov
The No. 3 middleweight has not fought since beating Caio Borralho in Paris on September 6, 2025. A title fight with champion Sean Strickland is being negotiated for UFC 335 on December 12, with no signed contract yet.
Manon Fiorot
Ranked No. 3 at flyweight and No. 7 in the women’s pound-for-pound list, Fiorot lost a decision to Alexa Grasso on September 12 in a bout billed as a title eliminator.
Benoît Saint-Denis and Salahdine Parnasse
Two French lightweights sit in the top 10 of the UFC’s deepest division. Saint-Denis beat Dan Hooker in February, then was submitted by Paddy Pimblett in 52 seconds at UFC 329 in July. Parnasse, a former two-division KSW champion, knocked out Hooker in his UFC debut as the Paris headliner and entered the rankings at No. 9.

Lightweight: the heart of French MMA
Five French fighters compete at 155 pounds: Saint-Denis, Parnasse, Sola, Ziam and Gugnon. It is the busiest division in the UFC, and the one where French gyms produce the most fighters able to compete at that level. The downside shows up on French cards, where compatriots end up facing each other. Sola beat Ziam in about 100 seconds in Paris.
