The UFC will hold its first Fight Night in Sydney since 2017 on Sunday, February 7, 2027, at Afterpay Arena. Australian rising star Quillan Salkilld will headline against France’s Benoit Saint-Denis in a lightweight (155-pound / 70-kilogram) bout.
Two ranked lightweights, one slot apart
On the UFC’s official media-panel rankings, Benoit Saint-Denis sits at number six in the lightweight division, with Quillan Salkilld right behind him at number seven, in a division topped by Ilia Topuria, Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira. UFC Australia and New Zealand senior vice president Peter Kloczko called the matchup unforgettable, describing Salkilld as one of the breakout stars of the lightweight division and Saint-Denis as one of the most dangerous and exciting finishers in the sport.
The rest of the top 10 includes Max Holloway at number four, Paddy Pimblett at number five, and then Mauricio Ruffy, Salahdine Parnasse and Mateusz Gamrot rounding out eighth through tenth, behind division leaders Ilia Topuria, Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira. Gamrot, as it happens, is the fighter Salkilld most recently beat, underscoring just how stacked the division is around both Sydney headliners.
Saint-Denis looks to bounce back
Benoit Saint-Denis enters the bout with a 17-4 professional record (with one no contest), going 9-4 inside the Octagon. His most recent outing came at UFC 329 in July 2026, where Paddy Pimblett choked him out in 52 seconds. Months earlier, at UFC 325 in January 2026, Saint-Denis had instead dominated Dan Hooker. The 30-year-old Frenchman, known to fans as the ‘God of War,’ remains one of the most closely watched fighters in the division since cracking the top 10, built on an aggressive style that has defined his UFC run.
Salkilld, the division’s fastest riser
Quillan Salkilld, 26, carries a 13-1 record overall and has gone a perfect 6-0 since arriving in the UFC. Discovered on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2024, the fighter from Broome, a remote town in Western Australia’s Kimberley region, has reeled off four straight first-round finishes, earning five Performance of the Night bonuses along the way. His most recent win came on August 8, 2026, at UFC Vegas 120, held at the Apex in Las Vegas, where he submitted Mateusz Gamrot with a first-round rear-naked choke in 4 minutes, 25 seconds. Afterward, he called for a top-five opponent. A former Australian rules footballer, Salkilld left school at 16 to pursue mixed martial arts full time.
The UFC’s return Down Under
The card will be the UFC’s fourth straight annual event in New South Wales, staged in partnership with the state government through Destination New South Wales. The promotion’s three previous Sydney cards since 2023, UFC 293 in September 2023, UFC 312 in February 2025 and UFC 325 in January 2026, combined for AUD $189.6 million in economic impact and drew more than 35,700 out-of-town visitors, according to figures the UFC has released. UFC 325 alone generated AUD $65.7 million for the metro area, with a sold-out crowd of 18,102 and AUD $14.4 million in gate revenue, a record for an indoor arena event in Australia. New South Wales Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper framed the new event as a boost for the state’s visitor economy.
Those three prior cards featured major names in their own right: Israel Adesanya against Sean Strickland at UFC 293, a Dricus du Plessis-Sean Strickland rematch at UFC 312, and a rematch between Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes at UFC 325, held at Afterpay Arena, formerly known as Qudos Bank Arena.
Tickets and the rest of the card
General public ticket sales have not opened yet, though fans can register for presale access at UFC.com/Sydney. The rest of the card and exact bout times have not been announced, and the promotion noted the event remains subject to approval from the New South Wales Combat Sports Commission. Given how quickly the last three Sydney cards sold out, with UFC 325 alone drawing 18,102 fans to the Afterpay Arena, demand for the February 7 announcement is expected to be high once tickets go live.
