Charles Oliveira holds three all-time UFC records: most submission wins (17), most finishes (21) and most post-fight bonuses (21). The former lightweight champion is ranked No. 3 in the division as of the official rankings of September 19, 2026.
Background
Born Charles Oliveira da Silva on October 17, 1989, in Guarujá, São Paulo, he is nicknamed “do Bronxs” after the favela where he grew up. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist, he trains at Chute Boxe Academy with Diego Lima on striking and Jorge Patino on jiu-jitsu.
UFC career
He debuted in the UFC in 2010 and became lightweight champion in 2021, with one defense. Recent fights: a decision win over Michael Chandler at UFC 309 (November 16, 2024), a first-round KO loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 317 (June 28, 2025), a second-round submission of Mateusz Gamrot (October 11, 2025), and a unanimous decision over Max Holloway at UFC 326 on March 7, 2026, which also earned him the BMF belt.
Style
Dangerous from almost any position on the ground, with rear naked chokes, triangles and guillotines, and an aggressive Muay Thai game standing. His weakness is defensive: he has often been hurt before turning a fight around.
