Overview
MMA Fighting is an American news site dedicated to MMA. Ray Hui launched it in April 2001, originally on Angelfire. AOL acquired it in 2009, then Vox Media bought it in 2011 and folded it into its SB Nation network.
The site was named Media Source of the Year at the World MMA Awards four years in a row, from 2015 to 2018. It is also where The MMA Hour started, the show Ariel Helwani launched in June 2009. Ariel Helwani hosted it weekly from June 2009 to June 2018, then again from June 2021. He left MMA Fighting in August 2024 to launch Uncrowned at Yahoo Sports.
Between those two stints, Luke Thomas briefly took over the show. Ariel Helwani was named MMA Journalist of the Year at the World MMA Awards every year starting in 2010. The show ran as an interview program with fighters, promoters, agents, coaches and journalists.
