Laura Sanko was born on December 7, 1982, in Chicago. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, she fought for Invicta FC and holds a 1-0 professional record. That win came on January 5, 2013, at Invicta FC 4 in Kansas City, where she submitted Cassie Robb with a rear-naked choke in her atomweight debut.
She studied at William Jewell College in Missouri. Her nickname, "Fancy," comes from that period: she was told she was too fancy to actually fight, and she kept the name. She joined the UFC in 2016 as a backstage reporter before moving into commentary.
