Din Thomas is a former UFC fighter turned coach and analyst. He finished his career with a record of 26 wins and 9 losses, and he was a cast member on the fourth season of The Ultimate Fighter.
After retiring, he coached full time at American Top Team in Florida from 2015 to 2020. There he worked with Tyron Woodley, who received his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt from Thomas, and with Amanda Nunes. He now works independently.
On Instagram and X (both @dinthomas), he posts short videos that mix analysis with humor. He breaks down an exchange, a position or a mistake, and reacts to fight news with a light touch.
He also shows up regularly on Lookin' For A Fight, Dana White's series in which the crew travels to regional shows looking for new talent. On the show, Thomas gives a coach's read on the prospects they scout, which shows you what a trainer looks for in a fighter nobody knows yet.
Din Thomas has seen MMA from three seats: inside the cage, in the corner and behind the analyst's desk. His breakdowns draw on what he lived through as a fighter and what he taught champions like Tyron Woodley and Amanda Nunes.
His videos are short and easy to follow, which makes them a good way to understand a technical detail without sitting through a long show. He can explain a ground position or a bit of footwork in a few sentences, with a specific example from a recent fight to make the point stick.
Din Thomas is for fans who want to learn how to read a fight without spending hours on it, and for practitioners who like straightforward explanations. Start with the breakdown videos he posts on Instagram after big events, then watch an episode of Lookin' For A Fight that features him to see how he sizes up a young fighter.
If you want to connect his analysis to his coaching career, rewatch a Tyron Woodley fight from the years Din Thomas was at American Top Team, between 2015 and 2020, and look for the grappling details he talks about in his clips.
