Analysis

Rizlen Zouak rose through the French women’s bantamweight scene after transitioning from judo. Training out of MMA Factory in Paris, she holds a record of 8 wins, 5 losses and one no contest, built almost entirely on ARES Fighting Championship cards.

Background

Born on May 14, 1986 in Beaune, to a Moroccan father and a French mother, Rizlen Zouak grew up in a family of combat athletes, with a boxer grandfather and uncles who practiced Greco-Roman wrestling. She first trained in judo before turning to mixed martial arts in 2016, after watching training sessions that led her to memorize the discipline’s techniques on her own. She joined MMA Factory in Paris, where she built her striking and ground base.

Her cage debut was marked by a stoppage win in under a minute over South Africa’s Jacqualine Trosee in 2017, a quick result that established her reputation on the nascent French women’s circuit. She then fought once for Cage Warriors, winning by second-round TKO over Northern Ireland’s Leah McCourt, confirming her ability to compete against foreign organizations before settling on the French scene.

Career at ARES Fighting Championship

Zouak joined ARES Fighting Championship from its inception and has fought the bulk of her career there. Her first appearance, in December 2019 at ARES 1, ended in a no contest after an incident tied to the state of the cage, preventing her from capitalizing on this first showing on a major French card. She then strung together several decision wins, over Senna van de Veerdonk and Jeniffer Pereira de Aguiar, before losing by TKO in December 2021 to Brazil’s Gisele Moreira, then the most experienced opponent she had faced.

She then took a decision over Flordinice Muniz in March 2022, dropped a decision to Melissa Mullins that same June, and beat Iony Razafiarison in November 2022, three outings that confirmed her place among the regulars on ARES cards. Her run in the organization reached its high point in December 2023, when she avenged her loss to Gisele Moreira on the scorecards at the Palais des sports Marcel Cerdan in Levallois-Perret, in a bout billed for the organization’s bantamweight title at ARES 18.

Fighting Style

Trained in judo before moving to MMA, Zouak has built most of her wins on the scorecards, with five decisions against three stoppages. Her takedown and ground control base, inherited from her original discipline, is paired with striking that has sharpened over her run with ARES, where she has shared cards with championship-level opponents alongside French compatriots such as Jordan Zébo and Abdoul Abdouraguimov.
