Undefeated in professional MMA.
Usman Nurmagomedov is an undefeated Russian MMA fighter, former Bellator lightweight champion and current Professional Fighters League (PFL) champion. A cousin of Khabib Nurmagomedov, he competes in the lightweight division with a record of 22 wins and 0 losses, plus one no contest.
Usman Magomednabiyevich Nurmagomedov was born on April 17, 1998 in Kiziliourt, in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia. He grew up surrounded by the Nurmagomedov clan and trained from a young age at the Eagles MMA camp in Makhachkala, founded by his uncle Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who also coached Khabib Nurmagomedov. After Abdulmanap’s death in 2020, Usman Nurmagomedov continued his preparation between Dagestan and the American Kickboxing Academy in the United States, where he notably works with Javier Mendez.
He turned professional in 2017 and strung together wins in regional and international promotions before joining a major organization. Between 2017 and 2020, he fought for the Moscow Pankration Federation, Battle on Volga, Brave CF, Gorilla Fighting and UAE Warriors, among others, piling up eleven straight wins, mostly by referee stoppage or submission.
Usman Nurmagomedov signed with Bellator in 2021. He beat Mike Hamel by decision at Bellator 255, then followed up with quick wins over Manny Muro and Patrik Pietila. In July 2022, he submitted Chris Gonzalez at Bellator 283, which earned him his first title shot. On November 18, 2022, at Bellator 288, he beat Patricky Pitbull by unanimous decision over five rounds to become Bellator lightweight champion.
He then defended his belt several times. In March 2023, at Bellator 292, he submitted Benson Henderson by rear-naked choke in the first round. In October 2023, at Bellator 300, his decision win over Brent Primus was changed to a no contest after a positive drug test with the California State Athletic Commission. In September 2024, he retained his title against Alexandr Shabliy by unanimous decision at Bellator Champions Series 4, the last defense of the belt before the Bellator division was dissolved and folded into PFL.
Under the PFL banner, Usman Nurmagomedov fought Paul Hughes twice. He won the first meeting by majority decision in January 2025 at PFL Champions Series 1, then confirmed it with a unanimous decision in October 2025 at PFL Champions Series 3, becoming the first PFL lightweight champion. He continued his run in February 2026 with a technical submission win over Alfie Davis at PFL Dubai, then in July 2026 with a first-round knockout of Archie Colgan at PFL New York, his most recent fight to date.
Usman Nurmagomedov fights a hybrid style built around grappling, inherited from the Eagles MMA school. He favors wrestling and ground control to wear opponents down or force a submission, with a clear preference for the rear-naked choke. He rounds out this base with solid striking, which has earned him several referee-stoppage wins on punches early in his career, as well as a knockout by hand in his most recent fight against Archie Colgan. His ability to finish fights early, combined with effective pace management across five-round title fights, makes him one of the most consistent fighters in his division.
