Taylor Lapilus, nicknamed “Double Impact,” is a French MMA fighter competing in the bantamweight division. Having fought for the UFC and then the ARES Fighting Championship before joining the Professional Fighters League (PFL), he ranks among the most consistent French veterans in the division.
Born on April 8, 1992, in Villepinte, Seine-Saint-Denis, Taylor Lapilus turned to grappling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu in the early 2010s before moving toward mixed martial arts. He turned professional on the French circuit and strung together several wins before signing with the UFC in 2015, at the time presented as one of the youngest Frenchmen signed by the organization. After several octagon appearances without a contract renewal, he continued his career with the ARES Fighting Championship, where he won the promotion’s bantamweight title. He also made a mark at TKO Major League MMA, becoming champion of that division’s bantamweight class as well, before returning to the UFC and then signing with PFL in 2025.
Historically trained at MMA Factory, in Paris, under Fernand Lopez, he has trained since 2023 at US Métro, after leaving his former club following a disagreement with his coach. This change of camp came while he was already an experienced fighter, with more than a decade of professional career behind him. His path has seen him face a variety of profiles from the world top 15 bantamweights, in line with other French fighters present on the international scene such as Charles Jourdain or Benoît Saint-Denis, even though each competes in his own division and with his own path.
Taylor Lapilus first signed with the UFC in 2015, where he fought several bantamweight bouts against internationally ranked opponents. This first stint ended without a contract renewal, a fate common to many fighters competing in a division as deep as bantamweight. After a detour through ARES FC, where he won a belt, he returned to the American organization in the early 2020s. His return to the octagon, after a long absence from competition, was hailed by observers of the sport as a sign of the Frenchman’s perseverance. He then left the UFC again to join PFL in 2025. During these two stints, he competed in a division featuring names like Umar Nurmagomedov, the division’s current reference point, though without ever crossing paths with him.
Taylor Lapilus builds his game around a grappling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu base, supplemented by extensive Muay Thai work and some krav maga notions. This versatility lets him alternate between striking exchanges and attempts at ground control, with a clear leaning toward judges’ decisions rather than systematically chasing a quick finish, as reflected in the breakdown of his record. His longevity in a demanding sport, after more than ten years at the professional level, is partly explained by this ability to manage rounds without taking unnecessary risks, the profile of a well-rounded fighter rather than a pure finisher.
