Baysangur Chamsoudinov, nicknamed Baki, is a French welterweight of Chechen origin at the ARES Fighting Championship, who came to wider attention with his win over Cédric Doumbé in March 2024 in Paris, at PFL Europe Paris 2. He won the division’s title in May 2025 before losing it to Jordan Zébo in October 2025, and a rematch between the two men is scheduled for November 20, 2026, at ARES FC 45.
Born on August 16, 2001, in Urus-Martan, Chechnya, Baysangur Chamsoudinov grew up in a region marked by the Second Chechen War. His family found refuge in France when he was 4 years old and settled in Haguenau, in the Bas-Rhin department, after a stay in Germany. He was given his first name in reference to Baysangur of Benoy, a figure of the Chechen resistance. As a child, he practiced judo up to black belt level, before giving up the sport, which he felt was too limited in a fighting situation, to turn to mixed martial arts. He adopted the nickname Baki in reference to the main character of the manga of the same name, on his coach’s suggestion.
Baysangur Chamsoudinov made his professional debut in August 2019 at the Hard Fighting Championship, then strung together two wins at 100% Fighting before joining the ARES Fighting Championship in 2022. Undefeated in his first five fights with the organization, he notably beat Bobby Pallett and Efraín Escudero. In March 2024, he faced Cédric Doumbé in Paris, at PFL Europe Paris 2, and won by TKO after his opponent complained of a toe injury, with the referee stopping the fight. This win thrust him into the French media spotlight. He won the ARES Fighting Championship welterweight title in May 2025 against Thiago Lima, before losing it in October 2025 to Jordan Zébo, by KO. A rematch against the same opponent is scheduled for ARES FC 45, on November 20, 2026, at the Adidas Arena in Paris.
Trained in judo before turning to MMA, Baysangur Chamsoudinov supplemented his base with boxing, giving him a striker’s profile who can also rely on takedowns when a fight gets to close quarters. Most of his wins come from KO or TKO finishes, a stat that confirms real striking power, while his decision wins also reflect an ability to manage a fight over the full distance. His only loss, by KO to Jordan Zébo, showed a vulnerability against an opponent able to impose his own pace. Like Stéphane Coignon, he illustrates the diversity of paths taken by French fighters, built outside the North American organizations alone.
