Cristiane Justino, known as Cris Cyborg, has dominated the heavier weight classes of women’s MMA for two decades. Born in Curitiba, Brazil, she has won titles in five major organizations and currently holds the PFL featherweight belt. Her ten fight winning streak, which began after her only real top level defeat against Amanda Nunes, makes her one of the most enduring figures in the sport.
Cristiane Justino played handball at a strong national level before discovering muay thai. Spotted by a coach from Chute Boxe Academy, she turned to MMA and made her professional debut in Curitiba on May 17, 2005, losing by submission to Erica Paes. She then put together several wins in Brazil and the United States before joining Strikeforce in 2008.
On August 15, 2009, she won the inaugural Strikeforce featherweight title against Gina Carano by TKO. She defended her belt several times, before a positive test for stanozolol, announced on January 6, 2012, led to a win being overturned, an eighteen month suspension, and a fine. She rebuilt her career at Invicta FC, where she won the featherweight title on July 13, 2013 against Marloes Coenen, then defended it through 2016.
Cris Cyborg joined the UFC in 2016 and won the vacant featherweight title on July 29, 2017 against Tonya Evinger. She defended her belt against Miesha Tate, Holly Holm, and Yana Kunitskaya, before losing it on December 28, 2018 by KO to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232. After a final win at UFC 240 in July 2019, she left the promotion and signed with Bellator.
At Bellator, she captured the featherweight title on February 25, 2020 against Julia Budd, then defended it twice against Arlene Blencowe, in October 2020 and April 2022. In October 2024, she joined the PFL for a fight billed as a clash of generations against Larissa Pacheco, which she won on points and which earned her the league’s inaugural featherweight super fight title, a fifth different organization where she became champion. She retained her belt on December 13, 2025 against Sara Collins by third round submission, then on August 22, 2026 against Ketlen Vieira by unanimous decision in Tampa.
Trained in muay thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Cris Cyborg built her reputation on constant pressure, heavy punching combinations, and a striking style that long made her one of the most feared finishers in her division. Her later career years show a more measured approach, with more careful distance management and a greater reliance on judges’ decisions and ground fighting, as shown by her submission win over Sara Collins in 2025.
