Analysis

Badreddine Diani is a Moroccan welterweight, a former UAE Warriors champion and runner-up at the PFL MENA 2025 welterweight tournament. Trained in combat sambo before moving to MMA, he continues his 2026 campaign in a promotion that has also signed Cameroonian heavyweight Francis Ngannou.

Background

Badreddine Diani trains and fights out of Casablanca, Morocco. Before turning to MMA, he competed in combat sambo at a high level, becoming Moroccan national champion as early as 2014, winning several African championship titles, and medaling at the world championships and the discipline’s Paris Grand Prix. He says he was practicing MMA even before organized competitions in the discipline existed in Morocco. He trains with his team in Casablanca and has held training camps in Thailand ahead of some of his biggest fights.

UAE Warriors career

Badreddine Diani made his professional debut in December 2016 with a submission win over Hisham Hiba, then joined UAE Warriors in 2021. There he strung together wins by TKO and decision, before suffering his first loss by TKO to Wisem Hammami in March 2022. He won the promotion’s Arabia welterweight title in March 2023, by split decision over Abdulla Al Bousheiri in a rematch, before losing that title and the Africa title to Wisem Hammami, by first-round TKO, in August 2023.

PFL MENA career

Badreddine Diani joined PFL MENA in 2024, the PFL’s regional division, a promotion where Johnny Eblen also competes. An injury ended his run in the semifinal despite a decision win over Amir Fazli. He returned in 2025 with two wins, including a second win over Amir Fazli in the semifinal that qualified him for the welterweight tournament final. There he faced Mohammad Alaqraa on December 5, 2025, for the belt, and lost a hard-fought unanimous decision after five rounds. He relaunched his campaign in 2026 with a decision win over Yousef Adel in July, which qualified him for the semifinals, then a submission win over Hazem Kayyali on October 2, 2026, in Riyadh, his most recent confirmed fight to date.

Fighting style

Badreddine Diani draws on his combat sambo background, a discipline combining striking and ground grappling, which he competed in internationally before MMA. His record shows a majority of wins on the scorecards, often in hard-fought fights, along with several finishes by triangle armbar. In his win over Hazem Kayyali in October 2026, he won by submission despite trailing on striking statistics, showing his ability to finish on the ground from a disadvantageous position. In his lost final against Mohammad Alaqraa, he also showed punching combinations and late takedown attempts before losing on the scorecards after five full rounds.

Badreddine Diani has described his 2026 semifinal qualification as a step rather than an endpoint, saying he wants to represent Morocco all the way through the tournament. He has also spoken of a message for young Moroccan fighters about perseverance and patient work, and a stated goal of seeing the PFL hold an event in his country.
