Weslley Maia became Cage Warriors bantamweight champion in March 2026, beating Ollie Sarwa by unanimous decision in London. The Brazilian fighter, based in the United Kingdom, carries a professional record of 12 wins and 6 losses, built over more than a decade of fighting between Brazil and Europe.
Weslley Maia, nicknamed Magic, was born in Boa Vista, in the Brazilian state of Roraima. He made his professional debut in 2013 in Brazilian regional promotions such as NFC, Arena Combat and SDC MMA, initially at flyweight. Quickly submitted by Natanael Dias in 2015, he got his revenge against the same opponent two years later, beating him by knockout. He then left Brazil to settle in the United Kingdom, where he joined the Great Britain Top Team club, based in London, moved up to bantamweight and continued his career in British and Irish organizations.
Weslley Maia made his Cage Warriors debut in 2018, losing by referee stoppage in the first round. He then put together a winning streak built largely on the rear-naked choke, his signature submission, beating Bogdan Barbu, Alexander Lööf and Aidan Stephen among others. In 2023, he competed in the Professional Fighters League European Championship final, which he won by unanimous decision over Lewis McGrillen, before returning to Cage Warriors to string together further wins, including two over Shirzad Qadrian. He entered his title fight on a run of five wins in his last six fights across all organizations. On March 20, 2026, at the Indigo at the O2 in London, he faced Ollie Sarwa, an undefeated fighter and former Cage Warriors Academy champion, for the vacant bantamweight title. Maia won by unanimous decision after a closely fought five-round bout and became champion of the division, thirteen years after his professional debut in Brazil, in a bantamweight division that also features UFC names such as Raul Rosas Jr., where the Professional Fighters League and Bellator made Danny Sabatello a recognized champion, and where Frenchman Taylor Lapilus climbed all the way to a world title.
Weslley Maia builds his game around constant ground pressure and submission work centered on the rear-naked choke, a technique that has produced several of his fastest wins, including against Alexander Lööf and Aidan Stephen. He complements this foundation with striking sequences capable of ending a fight on the feet, as seen in his knockout and stoppage wins over Iran Angelo and Natanael Dias. Against younger or undefeated opponents such as Ollie Sarwa, he relies on experience to manage distance, look for the clinch and bring the exchange to the ground, where he imposes his control until the final bell. This patient approach, built over more than ten years of competition, makes him a difficult opponent to rattle over the long haul for younger fighters.
