Analysis

Avazbek Kholmirzaev is an Uzbek mixed martial artist competing in the flyweight division of ONE Championship. He has held the ONE flyweight MMA world title since his KO win over Yuya Wakamatsu on April 29, 2026, in Tokyo.

Background

Avazbek Xolmirzayev was born on December 4, 2000, in Bulungur District, Samarkand Region, Uzbekistan. Nicknamed Ninzya, he completed mandatory military service with the Uzbek armed forces before committing fully to MMA. He describes that period as a factor in his mental discipline and points to his Muslim faith as a support in his preparation.

Kholmirzaev made his professional debut on April 12, 2022, at an event held by the Uzbekistan Mixed Martial Arts Association (UMMAA), beating Begzod Atazhonov by TKO after his opponent suffered a hand injury. He put together a run of wins on the Central Asian circuit, notably at several editions of Alash Pride in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. He suffered his first loss on January 29, 2023, against Seytkhan Meirkhanov, submitted by triangle choke, before resuming his progress with wins by TKO and submission.

ONE Championship Career

Kholmirzaev signed with ONE Championship and made his promotional debut on February 2, 2024, in Bangkok, submitting Leandro Gomes by guillotine choke at ONE Friday Fights 50. He went on to win four more fights, including a submission win over Changy Kara-Ool that earned him his first Performance of the Night bonus. On September 20, 2024, he suffered his second professional loss against Bektur Zhenishbek Uulu by unanimous decision.

He then went on another winning run, beating Valmir Galiev, Bolat Zamanbekov and Robson de Oliveira by submission or TKO, then won by decision over former DEEP champion Tatsumitsu Wada at catchweight. On November 8, 2025, he submitted former EFC Worldwide champion Willie van Rooyen with an armbar, then beat Jeremy Miado by TKO on December 5, 2025, in Bangkok, improving his record to 16 wins and 2 losses. That run earned him a title shot against reigning champion Yuya Wakamatsu at ONE Samurai 1 on April 29, 2026, in Tokyo. Kholmirzaev won the fight by KO with a spinning elbow in the second round, earned a second Performance of the Night bonus, and became the first Uzbek fighter to win a ONE Championship world title, joining former flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson among past belt holders.

Fighting Style

Kholmirzaev fights out of an orthodox stance and builds his record on a balance between striking and ground work. Nine of his sixteen wins come by KO or TKO, several by spinning kick or elbow, and six by submission, with the armbar and guillotine choke appearing repeatedly in his arsenal. His sharp style makes him one of the most active finishers in the organization’s flyweight roster, alongside other ONE champions such as Christian Lee.
