Analysis

Elbek Alyshov became ONE Championship MMA bantamweight world champion on July 31, 2026, beating Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu by referee stoppage at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok. Unbeaten since his professional debut in 2017, the Azerbaijani fighter has built his record on quick submissions and ground control rooted in wrestling and judo.

Background

Born in Russia to Azerbaijani parents, Elbek Alyshov first made his name as a junior. In November 2018, he won several bouts at the IMMAF Junior World Championships, including two by guillotine choke submission. He turned professional as early as 2017 with a submission win at a Time To Fight event, then joined the Russian Colosseum MMA circuit. Between October 2020 and March 2021, he strung together three wins there, all by submission or first-round stoppage, including a regional title fight won against Subkhonali Naimov by guillotine choke. That run built the reputation of a fighter able to finish opponents within the opening minutes, well before his arrival on the international scene.

ONE Championship Career

Elbek Alyshov signed with ONE Championship and made his debut for the Singapore-based promotion on August 1, 2025, at ONE Fight Night 34, submitting Jeremy Pacatiw with an arm triangle choke in the second round. Three months later, on November 7, 2025, at ONE Fight Night 37, he repeated the feat by submitting Carlo Bumina-ang with a guillotine choke, again in the second round. Those two quick finishes earned him a title fight against Mongolian champion Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu, nicknamed The Tormentor.

On July 31, 2026, at The Inner Circle 24 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Alyshov took his opponent down in the first round and controlled him on the ground with his judo. In the second round, he avoided a kimura attempt then landed two straight uppercuts that put Baatarkhuu down, followed by two more strikes that led the referee to stop the fight at 2 minutes 52 seconds. He became ONE Championship MMA bantamweight world champion and received a $50,000 performance bonus from organization chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

Fighting Style

Elbek Alyshov’s style is built on a base of wrestling, judo and sambo, complemented by a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt. Of his eleven professional wins, eight have come by submission, most often by guillotine choke or arm triangle after a takedown. That ability to combine ground control with a fast finish sets him apart in a bantamweight division that, in other organizations, also features fighters such as Payton Talbott, Raul Rosas Jr. and Marcus McGhee at the UFC. Alyshov adds precise ground strikes to this approach, as seen in his stoppage win over Baatarkhuu, along with an offensive style from the opening seconds of every fight.
