Impa Kasanganay Record, stats and next fight

Analysis

Impa Kasanganay is an American MMA fighter competing in the light heavyweight division at the PFL. A former accountant turned 2023 world champion, he has established himself as one of the most explosive strikers in the league’s tournament format.

Background

Born on January 17, 1994, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to parents from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Impa Kasanganay grew up in North Carolina from the age of twelve. He took up American football in high school at Providence High School in Charlotte, then continued the sport in college at Lenoir-Rhyne University, where he earned several degrees in accounting and finance. He worked as an accountant early in his fighting career.

He made his professional MMA debut in 2019 with a split-decision win at 864 Fighting Championship, then put together several wins on the American regional circuit, including a submission at King of the Cage and a split decision in his only LFA appearance. Spotted by Dana White’s Contender Series, he lost his first appearance to Kailan Hill in August 2019 despite a strong showing, before returning in August 2020 and defeating Anthony Adams by decision, which earned him a UFC contract.

PFL Career

Impa Kasanganay joined the UFC in 2020. He beat Maki Pitolo by decision in his debut on August 29, 2020, but then suffered two losses, one by KO off a spinning kick to Joaquin Buckley and one by TKO to Carlston Harris, sandwiched around a submission win over Sasha Palatnikov. The organization released him in December 2021. He then signed with Eagle FC, where he lost a split decision to Raimond Magomedaliev after missing weight, then earned a TKO win over Jared Gooden.

In March 2023, he earned a PFL contract by beating Osama Elseady at the Challenger Series. He strung together three wins in the light heavyweight tournament, by submission over Tim Caron, by KO over Marthin Hamlet, then by decision in the final against Josh Silveira on November 24, 2023, earning him the PFL light heavyweight title and the tournament’s million-dollar prize. He then lost a non-title split decision to Johnny Eblen in February 2024, followed by the 2024 tournament final by KO to Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov. In 2025, he fell by TKO to Fabian Edwards in the middleweight tournament quarterfinal, before returning to the win column by TKO over Andrew Sanchez and then by KO over Dalton Rosta in March 2026. On July 18, 2026, he faced Johnny Eblen again for the PFL interim middleweight title and lost by TKO in the third round.

Fighting Style

Impa Kasanganay is a mobile striker who relies on hand power and speed, with a football background that fuels his explosiveness in early exchanges. His time at Kill Cliff FC, a camp known for its strength and conditioning, has accompanied the progress of his striking game, which accounts for most of his finishes. He rounds out that foundation with occasional submissions, including a choke that produced one of his most notable UFC wins, and keeps enough wrestling defense to avoid being controlled on the ground for long.
